Hey, I'm still considering my college options, and I heard Washington was pretty good. It's not as well known as the Ivy Leaguers, but I heard that many professors don't actually TEACH there. My history teacher (for some reason, I don't know all the details) awards a full paid scholarship there. The fact that it's FREE is really an eye catcher, but any opinions about the school?
One of my good friends goes to Wash U. Her main complaint is the horrid weather, but she's originally from Los Angeles, so bad weather to her is anything that involves precipitation. Otherwise she seems to like it. She's majoring in psychology right now and also has a full ride somehow (not sure how though).
Wash U is an excellent school. I've only heard great things about it. It also has amazing med and law schools. Not that rankings matter to everyone, but it is in US News and World Report top 20 at #11 which is a really big deal.
Washington U is considered the "Ivy League" school of the midwest. It is a VERY well-respected institution of higher education. I think St. Louis is a good town, though, you should know the campus is not in the best area of town. St. Louis is not as laidback a city as most in the midwest, but it has fun places to hang out. The weather is constantly changing, so if you don't like it one day, chances are it will be different the next! Cold in the winter (snow, ice, etc.) and hot with tons of humidity in the summer.
Anyway, if you have a chance to go to Washington U with a scholarship, I say go for it!
An old friend from high school went there for undergrad and for post graduate school. He loves it but his car has been broken into/stolen countless times.
it is definitely a great school, but just so you know, if you are planning to be a business major, they only accept a few hundred freshman a year. during my interview the interviewer told me to apply arts and sciences (which accepts the most of any major) and transfer when i got accepted/began school, and that if i did that, i would be accepted (my grades, etc were good enough). i wasn't willing to take the chance of not getting into business school though and applied for business, and was waitlisted and then rejected. it worked out for me, i love my school now, but just keep that in mind if you apply there. good luck!
