i'm thinking this might be the scenario mainly b/c my mom does this with me. sometimes she'll pick out things that she likes, and she thinks that i'll like them too. our taste is pretty similar, but it does diverge at points so  she'll give me the item, but she'll also tell me that if i don't like them give them to b/c i'll wear them, and find me something else. i bet if you give them back to her, she'll probably find you something else.
