Questions about personal trainers
Permalink Closed

DH and I joined a gym back in December and we've both definitely seen results on our own, but I'm thinking it'd be nice to use a personal trainer to make sure we're using the machines correctly and everything.  When we joined our gym, we were given two complimentary sessions with a personal trainer, but we've never used them, so I'm thinking we'll do that soon.  My question is, do I tip the trainer still?  If so, how do I do that--do I just hand them cash or do I arrange a tip at the front desk?  How much should I tip?

Also, if it turns out that we like working out with a trainer, about how much does it cost for a one hour session once a week?  I really have no clue what their rates run and I don't see any info on our gym's website.

I just asked my SO since he's a personal trainer, and they aren't allow to accept tips, so you shouldn't worry about that.  Also, the rates are going to vary on the type of gym you go to.  When he started, his hourly rate was $65, but now that he's moved up and is more experienced, I think he charges $85/hour now.  It all depends on the gym and the trainer.  Just ask the gym and they'll give you the rates.  HTH!

My husband is also a personal trainer. He may accept tips and gifts at the gym he works at, but I know that at a lot of large chain gyms, they are not allowed to accept tips.

Rates will vary by region and experience/quality of trainer. At DH's gym it's about $75 per 45 minutes. Some places give price breaks if you buy packages of sessions.

I've been seeing a personal trainer 2 x a week for about 1.5 hours each time (sometimes longer). I have seen AMAZING results.

The place I go is a gym that only offers personal training services. So, you don't actually have a gym membership or anything and you only pay for the personal training you get. I pay $85 a session. It's awesome because there are times when I am the only one in the gym.
