Ok, the time is long overdue to buy Xzavier an infant to toddler seat. And I come to you ladies for advice... anyone have one they love? Hate? Zav is at least 20lbs but under a year, so he needs to still be rear-facing, right? How long did you all keep your babies rear-facing? Also, I have a VW Passat, so if his seat is rear-facing I think space may be an issue.
Sidenote, I'm totallly upset by the fact that my baby has outgrown his infant carrier and all the layette clothes... my baby is growing up
Yes, babies do need to stay rear facing until their first birthday and weigh 20 lbs. I don't think I could be much help for a car seat recommendation though since I picked out mine solely for the fact that they were pink!
Britax Marathon. Love love love. The one in the picture is kinda fug but they have a lot of different cover options. My daughter likes it as well because it sits fairly high and she can see out the window well.

I have a Britax Decathlon..I absolutely love it. I was initially going to pick the marathon but went with the Decathlon because it has a higher max weight capacity - up to 65 pounds (yes I plan to have her in a car seat forever *LOL* ) and it has a bit more padding. Also it has a couple more reclining options, which was nice when she was still pretty small. Now it is a HUGE car seat, I have an Infiniti FX 35 and it is a bit uncomfortable for two people to sit in the back seat (the back seat should sit 3 comfortably)
Here is a pic...the marathon definitely has nicer color options http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EFQX0C
I have the Britax Boulevard and LOVE it and so does Hayden. Worth every penny! Hayden was turned forward facing early, he was almost 11 months. He was over the 20 pound limit and very long. When we had him rear facing his legs were crowded and it was unsafe. So, we spoke with a state trooper & his doctor and made the decision to turn him around a little early.
I love my Britax marathon because it's easy to install, comfortable, easy to buckle and adjust, and sits at a comfortable angle for a sleeping child.
I dislike my older son's eddie bauer 3-in-1 because it's harder to install, challenging for anyone (other than me) to buckle and adjust, the buckle is short at the bottom and you have to basically dig into baby's crotch to manage it, and is less cozy.

I have a Mercedes C230 which is about the same size as your car and I ended up with the Britax Diplomat. The Diplomat was specically made for smaller cars. I'm currently using it rear facing and it is working out fine. I also saved a few bucks and purchased two of them off ebay from babyliquidators. Good luck on your research. I stressed on it for about two weeks until I finally made a decision which I am very pleased with.
Thanks girls for all the suggestions. I just ordered the Britax Marathon in the couture eclipse grey fabric: I figured the extra $30 was worth it because it's gender neutral and I'll be able to use it for baby #2 also.
We tried to put Xzavier in a couple of the other Britax and he did not like them, I don't think he liked all that stuff around his head. And the Marathon fit well in our car. Thanks again!
