"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I'm from the pacific northwest, fwiw . Most of the people here are the ones that swear they don't have an accent - at least I know I'm correct when I say that now!

Mine said Midland, too. I'm from Nebraska, which was at one time (and may still be) the telemarketing mecca due to the lack of accent in the native people, so I guess that fits.

I wanted to add: I have coworkers named Dawn and Don. I say their names the same. Another coworker always asked me to clarify by saying "Do you mean Don or Dwon?" I just say their last names now.

So isnt that an accent? Like a Boston accent? Shouldn't Dawn rhyme with yawn and Don rhyme with John?

Perhaps it is. All of those words rhyme IMO with John. Maybe a slight variation...the only time anyone claimed I had an accent is when I lived in Minnesota.

Yep, pretty accurate! It says I may be from Southern Ohio and I'm actually from Northern Kentucky - about 5 min from Cincinnati

This is fun! I got the Midland one, meaning I don't have an accent. I'm from California though! I don't get it- I always thought there was a midwest accent. Like people from Missouri pronouncing it like Missoura? Or prounouncing the O sound (like in mom) with a bit of an A sound? I once had a history teacher tell us that Californians were the only ones with no accent... whatever that means!

Ha! Fun. I got "The West" as my top score (no discernable accent). I'm from Northeastern Ohio, so the Canadian, Midwestern, and Western Pennsylvania accents all cancel each other out. biggrin

Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta.

I'm from the south and have a pretty distinct southern accent though maybe not as much as a lot of people from the same area. I definitely don't have a good tv or radio voice!

I got Midland as well. I'm from Texas. Most people don't think I'm from Texas (when I'm traveling) unless I say y'all or the like.

Here are my beefs with Texas accents: 1) the ones on tv and/or movies are sh*t. They sound nothing like anyone I've ever heard except for people on tv and/or movies. 2) Texas accents are distinctly different than southern accents. Accept it, Julia Roberts.

Me too Collette!! I would venture to say that as Chicagoans we certainly do not want to be asked if we are from Wisconsin though. HA! (That is a Bears Packers reference and is not mean to offend any of the faboo Wisconsin ladies on the forum biggrin

I got Philadelphia and that's right where I'm from. However, I've traveled all over the country and no one can ever detect an accent. People tell me I don't have one.
