Kind of embarassing UTI related question
Permalink Closed

Ok, this is a little personal so I might delete it later...

A week ago Saturday I started having UTI symptoms, burning, etc.  I started drinking cranberry juice which usually helps on the onset, and the symptoms went away.
Fast forward to Thursday morning at work, and all of a sudden I had horrible symptoms, urgent need to urinate etc.   I had to go home because I could not get comfortable at my desk.  I went to the doctor that afternoon and they gave me Bactrim.  Symptoms have subsided.  Today I get a call from the doc's office, turns out I tested negative for a UTI so I was told to stop taking the bactrim.  How can this be?  Has this happened to any of you?

I made the mistake of googling this in search of answers and I've found it could be anything from cervical cancer to candida to a nervous condition (doubtful).
Thanks ladies...

I'd call your doctor's office back and ask them what the other possibilities are if it's not a UTI ...?

I don't really have alot of advice, other than stay away from Dr. Google and switch to cranberry pills instead of juice (more potent and no sugar!), and go back to the doctor if your symptoms come back.

Sorry cry.gif.  UTIs suck!

I've had similar symptoms with a bladder or kidney infection, which can be serious if left untreated. If it's neither of those, please don't take this the wrong way but you may want to get tested for STD's, burning while urinating could be a sign of one.

I have no advice other than to go back to the doctor.  Something is obviously wrong and you need your doctor to help you figure it out.

Don't know if this helps or not, but I can "give" myself an UTI if I think about it too much. It sounds weird but I get symptomatic and everything, only I don't actually have one.

I'd definitely call the doctor and ask what's up.

I 2nd the cranberry pills. It's part of my daily vitamin routine, just in case. Plus cranberry is mainly for prevention, not a cure.

Collette is right: it could be some kind of infection, you should go back to the doctor and try to figure out/ask for some other exams you could do.

Some years ago I was frequently having UTI (like, once a mont). After I stopped working with my boss and came to the States, all that suddenly stopped.
Now I think it was stress: probably stress was weakening my immune system and making me "defensless" against bacteria... I don't know your day to day situation, but you may consider this too

Hey girls, thanks for the responses.  I have gotten checked for all STDs so I know it's not that, so that's a relief.  I think it might be somewhat stress-related.  Someone recently quit at work, and I essentially have two people's jobs now.  I had one short day of training in the new job but I'm expected to fill his shoes seamlessly.  It's been going well, but I think it's taking a toll on my body, my sleep, and my weight (I'm down to 98 lbs.).
I freaked myself out yesterday when I read all that stuff on google.  Just thinking I was wasting away or something due to a serious illness.  I feel a lot better about it now, just writing it out & reading your replies made me feel better.  The doctor said if the symptoms are gone I don't have reason to come in so for now I'll attribute it to stress.  Thanks again!
