I've got spring cleaning fever! I want to get rid of all of my DVD cases and organize my cds and DVDs. I currently have around 500 total. Most of my CDs are in a binder like this:
However I wanted to see if anyone had a better system or storage unit you use for your DVDs and CDs???
I like the idea of this thing below...so that I could file DVDs away and keep them in order but it's kind of ugly! Any suggestions?
It probably doesn't help you, but I turned a linen closet into media storage with some cheap metal racks. Maybe the drawer thingies would work inside a cabinet, or nice armoire? (Any excuse to buy furniture...)
I looked on the IKEA website and can't find the pieces I bought for cd and dvd storage, but they're at the store. I bought a skinny bookcase with a patterned, glass door, essentially. I bought the shorter one (um, about 3 feet high? and 12" across) first and loved it so much I went back and bought the taller one (6+ feet high) for dishes and such.
I use the smaller one for dvd storage and it looks great. The patterned glass is a floral/greenery pattern (although it's all glass and frosted glass), so it looks really cool. There are several different glass doors to choose from. Some have patterned fabric in them, some are striped (again with the frosted/unfrosted glass), and some are just plain glass. And you can get whatever size bookcase/shelving unit you want - or at least you can choose different heights and widths. The wood comes in white, natural, maybe a medium color, and espresso (or whatever IKEA's version of brown/black is).
I have the smaller one in my living room with my dvds in it and the taller one in my dining room with my fancy dishes/glasses in it. I get tons of compliments on both of them. They're very striking and utilitarian.
For my cds I bought some fabric file type boxes at Container Store. I did one frantic day of putting all my cds on my computer, so hopefully I won't ever have to go in the boxes ever again.
