Hmmm I would try an apartment finder and see if they do roomate matching. Something a little more controlled. I've had friends find roomates through the local city paper too, like the Redeye and the Reader in Chicago. Not sure if you have something similar.

A lot of my friends have found roommates by posting myspace /facebook bulletins. Even if none of their friends need a roommate, maybe they know someone else who is also looking?

I know you tried craigslist, but just keep weeding through the weird ones, and check it everyday. When I left Columbia for a month and came back I needed to move into a new place. I found the perfect roommate on craigslist. It's this guy that owns a house and rents out three of the rooms. He's super cool, has never made a move on me, the rent's really cheap, and I've been there since July. I didn't expect to find a roommate like that off craigslist, so just keep trying. You never know what you'll come across.

See if there are any roommate connections in the graduate school(s) at local college(s) and/or universitie(s). At the very least, there might be some postings on a bulletin board or an online forum of some sort.
Move to Minnesota and live with me! :) I'm looking for a roomate too, it blows! Have you thought about a studio? Could you afford that, or maybe an efficiency apt?

Why do you think roommates.com is bogus? Just wondering, because many of my friends found their roommates through the site and had nothing but raves for it.
I would consider a studio but 1) I think I am too lonely right now to live alone. I think I need to be around people to get my mind off of things. I know it sounds weird but I just feel like coming home to an empty apt would depress me.
Also, I am not sure of how much I can afford with a studio, and then I'd have to buy furniture for an entire apt instead of just a room (I am starting from scratch).
I thought roommates.com was bogus bc as soon as I signed up so many people messaged me but in order to retrieve my messages I had to pay... Its like $6 for 2 days. I figure its impossible to find a roommate in 3 days so obviously its going to be costly to find any prospects on this site.
I have been weeding through Craigslist, am finding some. I notice that alot of people don't write back also but I am hoping to see an apt tonight, so I'll stick with Craigslist. Thanks for the input guys!
Have you checked your local college postings? Our local community college has a roomates board outside the student center with a lot of students looking to sublet.
