Lightweight digital camera recommendations?
Permalink Closed

I just realized that I never take pictures because my camera is too big and heavy to lug around with me. Anyone have any recs for a really lightweight/small digital camera that is easy to use, has a nice screen (mine currently flips out, which i LOVE, but willing to give this up if need be.), takes good pictures (duh) and is under $250? $200 or less would be ideal. I am going to South America in March and want to bring it!

I just got the Casio - EXILIM 7.2MP Digital Camera about two weeks ago. I really like it and it's simple to use. Right now it's on sale at bestbuy.com for less than $150. HTH!

I have the Sanyo 7 megapixel for candids/quick shots.  It is less than $150 and small enough to fit in a pocket.  Got mine at Best Buy.  Takes good snapshots, but is definitely not an "awesome" camera.  Everyone I know that owns a Canon Elph loves it and their shots are always amazing... I think you can find some cheaper versions of the older Elphs.  They are very small...

Canon all the way. Takes the BEST pictures, super easy to use, extremely lightweight, small, big screen. I can't say enough good things about it.

I really like my Canon Elph. I think I have the SD850.

The one I ALWAYS recommend to customers is the Canon Power Shot SD750. It has a nice 3" screen and pretty compact. The picture and camera quality is great! If you have any questions let me know!

We like our Pentax Optio. We keep upgrading to newer ones and selling our old ones to friends. It looks like this -
Pentax Optio S6

It theoretically fits inside an Altoids box.

You might want to browse user ratings on Amazon or Cnet.

My dad has an SD750 and loves it. I have an SD630 (I think it's a discontinued model now) but I love my camera as well. I would definitely recommend Canon. Good for point and shoot -AND- if you want there are manual controls too.

I was going to recommend a Canon also. You can find a very nice one for under $250.

Another vote for Canon.  DH & my brother have Canons and they take great pics.  I also love that they come w/a rechargable battery. My Nikon just broke and I'm picking up a Canon. FYI - Staples is having an awesome sale for it this week for a Canon SD1000.  Its a 7.1 megapix for $159! They're sold out online but you might find one in-store if you call around.  They have a ton of printable coupons on ebay and it would make it even cheaper.

^^ I was going to mention Staples too. They are having a fat sale lately, and I just got myself the Sony Cyber Shot w55 (cause it's cuter) but was considering the SD1000 also. Next week, they're planning on putting the Cyber Shot w80 on sale for $130.
