What do you pay your nanny/babysitter

I think a lot depends on what you are expected to do. Will you do any light cleaning, preparing of meals, transporting the children? Our sitter, who only sits a few hours on an occasional evening, with no expectation of doing baths or helping with homework, gets paid $9 and hour. My neighbor has a college age nanny during the week who get the kids from school, helps with homework, and begins dinner preperations (the mom leaves instructions), she gets paid $15 an hour I think...

Well, I'll be with them from the time they wake up until 5pm. So I will obviously be making 2+ meals and I will be taking them to swimming lessons and soccer practice. I always clean the house when I'm there.

I would say for 3 kids and making meals etc. $12/hr is a DEAL. I would for sure work out the details first, you don't wanna start work and find out they're only paying you $6/hr!

If your'e going to be doing that much, and with children that age, you should at least be getting $10. I think $12-$15 would be the usual pay. I agree with needsfashionadvice, you need to work out the payment before you start working for them.

Is this just for some extra money in the summer, or do you need to be making rent or other bills? I just ask this because if it were me, and I was going to be working for someone I know for some extra spending money, I would be more lenient with pay. Even with $10/hour, for say 7 hours/day, 5 days/week, thats $1400 a month.

i worked as a nanny for a family w/3 kids (about the same age as the kids you will be watching) and i made $10 an hour. however, the mom was with me most of the time...i was basically just an extra set of hands...so i would say-at least $10 an hour, but maybe even $12. hth! good luck, being a nanny was definitely one of my favorite jobs!!

I paid my nanny $12 an hour...she worked 3 days a week from 9am-4pm...she made him lunchand gave him a bath...he was only 4 months old,so she did not really drive him anywhere

I actually have three different families that pay me that. I live in an uber rich area.

There's one family in particular that is especially generous. I once babysat for an hour and they paid me a $100 because they didn't have anything smaller!

For the amount of work you'll be doing, you should be getting at least $10/hour. I used to charge per kid. But also, you'll be driving them around, so you need to think about gas and mileage on your car. I would say you should make at least $12/hour, but $15/hour would be better. Think of it this way...that's only $5 per kid.

I don't have kids, but $20 an hour for a Friday or Saturday night isn't unusual for my friends who have one toddler. For daytimes they probably wouldn't pay that much.

IMO a nanny job should pay more than a babysitting job, and a multiple-kid situation should pay more than a single-kid situation.

I'd say $12-$15 an hour would be perfectly reasonable for the amount of work a 3-kid all day situation will require. That's still considerably less than it would be to have 3 kids in full-time day care!

My friend has 3 kids (toddlers but still) and the cheapest she can find a nanny (same duties as you're describing - maybe less actually) is $500/wk, which breaks down to $12.5/hour if you're working a 40 hour week. I'd say start with $15/hour in your talks with her but be willing to settle for $12 if that's what she can afford.
