ISO Yoga Mat/ Accessories
Permalink Closed

Hey girls,
I am looking for a yoga mat and I was absolutely appalled by how some people, like Lululemon, are charging 54 dollars for essentially a little strip of rubber.  I found some I really like:

but they're sold out of the ones at either end, and with shipping it will probably come to 40 bucks and I'm being a cheap bastard bc I want to get a yoga bag, too, and that's like another thirty/forty dollars right there.  Its not for me, its for my mom, since she's finally getting active and I'm really proud of her and I know she really wants a mat but just hasn't picked one yet.  I told her I'd get her something mid-January instead of at Xmas.  She will not speak to me if she realizes that I paid almost eighty dollars on yoga accessories since she is thrifty as sin.  (I may have to lie, but she's pretty canny and I know she'll find out.)

I went on ebay to look but I'm not really inspired.  Does anyone have any reviews or tips?

I actually got one at Cost Plus a while back that came in a nice little silk bag. I'm not sure how much it was, but I think around $25 or less. It has actually turned out to be my favorite mat, although I have a ridiculously fancy, uber thick one that probably cost upwards of $50. I find that the thinner one I got at Cost Plus is more comfortable in the long run, and just the right amount of sticky, without feeling like I'm getting residue on my hands.

Gingembre,
Is cost plus online? I couldn't find it.. joys of being Canadian ;)
Thanks for the review.. its nice to know that the really built up mats aren't always the best.

do you have target or Bed, Bath and Beyond in Canada? I'm sure you could find some there. I've even spotted some at the big bookstores, like B&N and Borders.

I got mine at TJ Maxx. They have a pretty good selection of yoga/pilates stuff.

Wow, you guys are really lucky. We don't have ANY of these stores in Canada. I checked Chapters, which is our equivalent of Borders, and they don't have any yoga stuff at all. You must have thought I was kind of nutty for even asking, if its that available in the States! Anyway, I'll keep looking..maybe some of those stores sell online.

I just got a great one from Marshall's for $20 that wicks away sweat, which I find is key for yoga.  It's by Reebok.
TJ Maxx usually has mats, as well.
