? about the Barnes and Noble MC Credit Card
Permalink Closed

Can somebody please take a look at the link below and let me know if the rates and such are actually good? I have no clue about credit cards and have never had one. I feel at this point in my life- nearing 30- I should actually have one as an emergency type thing/credit builder. I shop quite a bit at B&N, about $50 a month, so if I earn rewards and such towards books then this would make sense, right?? Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend getting a store credit card for your 1st credit card.  Stores notoriously have the highest interest rates.  You mentioned you have never had a cc - so do you have any credit at all?  If you don't have much credit, you may need to go somewhere like Capital One - they were one of my first credit cards when I didn't have any credit established.  If you do have credit history, I would recommend either a Chase or Citicard Rewards card - just go to either website and look at the different cards/rewards.  HTH!

I would call them about the APR.  It says 0% for 6 months if you are on time with payments, but what will it increase to after 6 months?

If you click on Terms & Conditions, it shows you what it will increase to after the 6 mos is up.  15.74% is the lowest.

It is definitely not the best card out there as far as interest rates go, but it is not the worst I have seen.
It really depends on how you plan to use the card. If you are going to use it and pay it off every month and take advantage of the points, then it is fine because you will not be paying the 15-21% interest that it has.

If it is more for emergencies that you think will take more than a month to pay off or something like that then I would look for a better rate. Right now 9.99 is on the lower side for good credit.

FYI the main things you want to look for are no annual fee and the APR.
