Does anyone have an Oreck? I have heard great things about them and I am interested in the XL Ultra. Does anyone have this model or tell me anything about it? Thanks!

Do't have an Oreck, but I SWEAR by my Dyson.I'm sure some ladies here would agree.

I'm with carmenb. I know nothing about Orecks, but we have a Dyson and I swear it was the best $500 I've ever spent.

I agree too! The basic model is $399, and if you get a nice SA at Bed Bath & Beyond, you can use the 20% coupon. I will never buy another brand of vacuum.

BF bought me a Dyson DC14 for my birthday last year, and then all our friends bought Dysons of their own after we demonstrated its skills. I'm with all the other ladies. We'd never buy another brand after this.

Dyson DC14 Full Kit Upright Vacuum

We got ours at Costco when they had a $60 coupon off so it was around $400.

My mom has an oreck, not sure which one, but she hasn't ever complained about it so I'm assuming she likes it.

But I second what everyone has said about the Dyson... I heart.gif mine!

I have never seen a dyson in action, but what is so great about it? What makes it worth $400 vs other vacuums?

my mom has the Oreck XL and loves it, she doesnt want the dyson because of the canister vs. bag issue. (im not sure, i think the canister would be easier, but thats just my opinion) anyway, ive used it several times and its awesome. you NEVER have to go over anything twice and it leaves the room looking spotless, i def. recommed it if you want a bag vaccuum

Thanks! I saw that you can go into the Oreck store and test out the Oreck and the Dyson and get a Oreck iron for free just for testing them! I am really interested in the Oreck XL Ultra though because it has intellashield technology that actually eliminates 99.9% of allergens!

What do you guys think of the Roomba, that vacuums rooms all by itself? A new model just came out:

For what it's worth I have a Hoover and LONG for the Dyson.

I have a Roomba that I never use.  It's a pain to have to pick up all the stupid stuff the Roomba might get stuck on or eat (like area rugs), plus it would always get stuck inbetween furniture and the floor.  And, I am so lazy that it was too much work to have to clean out the thing all the time.  I just didn't like it and much prefer to use the good 'ol vaccuum every few days.

That is what I want - a good vacuum I can spend a few minutes a day a couple times a week. The one I have now isn't picking much anymore. I have to get to the Oreck store this weekend!

When I downsized to my NYC apartment I gave my parents back home my Dyson and I, dare I say, MISS IT!  That thing was amazing.  My parent's like it better then their filterqueen.  The Dyson just seemed to work so well and the hand tools were amazing for the couch, curtains and such...I just don't have a big enough place anymore to need it, but am considering the handheld one.

we have the oreck xl, it's an older model, we've had it for about 5 years now and we've had no problems with it at all. the canister vacuum that came with it is great for stairs, curtains, walls, etc and i also got the free iron, which i love. my mom has gone through 2 orecks in 14-15 years and she used to go through a vacuum a year. (we had a lot of kids at home, big messes) they own apartments now, and the only vacuum they use is oreck. they are soo lightweight, easy to use, good quality and really work great. you can also get air freshener tabs to put in the bag to keep the vacuum smelling good. some people say they are loud, but what vacuum isn't? i recommend them to all my friends.

i really like the iron, too, although i don't do a whole lot of ironing. it can be used as regular plug in iron or else you can make it cordless, which is pretty cool. it also has a steam setting.
i think they still give you a free iron if you buy a new vacuum, but i could be wrong...

If anyone is thinking of splurging on the Dyson, I got one last night with a 20% off coupon at Bed Bath & Beyond.  It makes the price a lot nicer.  I have to say that I absolutely love it.  We got the Animal D17 model which is their newest model and it is something else.  We vaccuumed one more time with our old Hoover, then vaccuumed with the Dyson and filled up a tank of dirt and hair.  With our old Hoover it would take us several weeks to fill up the tank.  Plus, this vaccuum is self propelled so it makes vaccuuming so easy, the vaccuum does most of the work for you!

I have a Dyson DC 14 and I LOVE it. It sucks all the nasty stuff out of my carpet and transitions really well between carpet and bare floor. I also find the canister very easy to empty, it just pops out, I push a button, the bottom opens, and all the dirt falls into the trash. Very easy. It's also really easy to use and I like the attachments it comes with.
