NYC GIRLS: What's There to Do in NYC At Night - Work Related
Permalink Closed

So the company I work for is having a huge User's Conference in NYC and I'm in charge of coming up with excursions/outings for the night.  I've already come up with a few that we're using but I need to come up with a couple of more ideas and I'm drawing a blank.  So far we're offered Wicked and/or Young Frankenstein; ESPN Zone; and Caroline's Comedy Club.  Does anyone have any other ideas that are different than the ones listed above?  Keep in mind this is for clients so we don't want anything too tasteless or offensive.

TIA!

There's a stage-hand strike right now and a lot of B'way shows are not running, so you might want to check into Wicked and YF if you're planning these events for sometime in the near future.

How about renting a double-decker bus for a night-time tour of the city?
Vouchers for skating at Rockefeller Center? Tickets to the Top of the Rock (observation tower)?

I know all about the strike but luckily this conference is in the summer of 2008 so hopefully all will be back on by then!  Thanks for your suggestions!

I know the double-decker bus thing might sound cheesy but it really is a lot of fun.  We've used it before when we've had a meeting in one location and a reception in another as a fun way to transport everyone.

How large of a group are you planning for?  Some other things my company has done for our larger meetings:
-Party cruise, rent one of the ferry boats for a cruise around the city at night.
-Private comedy show.  Rent out one of the small comedy houses.  One of the girls in charge of doing this said it was really stressful because she had to spend a lot of time making sure the comics would keep it PC for a work function.
-Bowling...I skipped this

For smaller groups you could do a wine tasting or champagne tasting (Flute is a great champagne bar).  Or if you can score tickets to a baseball game that's always fun.

I think Gotham Comedy Club is supposed to get some of the better comics...although I haven't been to Caroline's and know it's a famous venue.

What about a jazz club, like the Village Vanguard?  May be better for a smaller group.

Young Frankenstein is getting some somewhat crappy reviews, at least now.  If you're looking for a comedy, Spamalot was the most fun show I've ever seen.  Granted, I saw it three years ago with the original cast, but it was so great -- and you don't need to be a huge Monty Python fan to enjoy yourself.

We're already doing the Double Decker thing during the day.  We do this every conference and it's always a big hit.  I'm from NJ so I'm somewhat familiar with the city; I don't venture in too often though so I don't know what there reallly is to "do".

Scarlett - we really want to do Spamelot, but we can't get tickets for it.

ETA:  Thank you so much for your suggestions!
