So I have mono, which BLOWS becasue classes are seriously picking up now and I've been trying to get into shape for my Latin America trip. The doctor said no exercising for 2 weeks. you've got to be kidding me. At any rate...have you ever had mono? If so how long did you have it for? Did you work out during it? TIA

While I have never been cursed with mono, I know many people who have, and they have been out of work and school for weeks, months in some cases. Take your doctor's advice and do not work out for the next two weeks so you can save your energy to get well, as that is the most important thing.
I had a mild case my first year in college. I was home for a few weeks (school was 2 hours away) - no work, no doing much of anything. A girl in my HS had it and she lost most of her freshman YEAR to it...had to repeat the year. Listen to what your dr. says! It's inconvenient but it could be much worse. Give up what you have to now, for a little while, so you don't jeopardize your health more.

I had a relatively minor case of mono last year and it sucked, to say the least. I was out of work for almost a month, and never really felt normal until months afterward. I would definitely take it easy - sleep, drink fluids, relax. If you have an appetite, eat. I lost my appetite for weeks, and hardly ate anything, which doesn't help the whole getting better thing. Also, I had a hard time taking it easy, but that's all you can really do.
And I would definitely take your doctor's advice. I was told that when you have mono, your spleen is enlarged and working out could cause damage to the spleen. I was asked if I do kickboxing or really active sports, because those were all no-no's during mono.
Hope you feel better soon!

Listen to your doctor. I had mono my senior year and I am pretty sure if I had been bright and stayed at home for two straight weeks I would have recovered. As it stands I kept trying to go back to my sports team practices (rowing) and I ended up prolonging it about to 2 months.

Definitely listen to your doctor and stay home and don't exercise. My boyfriend had mono a few years back and he had a really bad case of it. The symptoms lasted a good 6 mos and he said he didn't feel 100% normal until about a year later. He had to quit his job (he's a personal trainer) and everything. I'm not telling you this to scare, more just so you listen to your doctor and take care of yourself, so yours doesn't get any more serious.
I had a mild case my freshman year of college. Definitely listen to your doctor. My doctor told me to avoid exercise and heavy lifting because I could damage my spleen (and I think other organs) if I didn't. It was a while ago, but I remember that I felt like utter crap for about 2 weeks before I was diagnosed, and then about another week after that. Then I started getting back to normal.
I had an extremely bad case of mono. Mine lasted much longer than the two weeks your doctor said. I would definitely listen to your doctor bc the more you wear yourself out the longer it will take to heal. Good luck and sorry!

ditto ditto ditto. Listen to your doctor and see how you feel after 2 weeks. You might have to wait longer. My roommate had it and couldn't exercise for a month, and nothing too strenuous for a couple months (spleen).
I had it in the 6th grade and I think I missed like 10 days of class, but I felt sick for about a month, and several months later I still wasn't back to my old self. My brother also had it, and it took him a few months to get over it too (he also missed like 2 weeks of school). IIRC, I was really tired for several months afterward.
Listen to your doctor!
