Review: Newport News lace-up boots

A few people asked me to review my poor man's villagers wink.gif

6F2367A.jpgThey came today, and I am pleasently surprised. This isn't real leather, of course, being $39, but I was pleasently surprised with how good it looked for faux...I think it being dark helped because it's harder to see details.

Anyway, I like them for what I paid. I searched around on google and found both a free shipping code and a 20% discount code, which I am thrilled about because these ended up being a little over $30, and for that price I think they're great. I am a bit concerned about the ankle becoming slouchy after a few wears, but I'm hoping that if I keep them stuffed with newspaper or something they'll bend back to straight in between wears. They seemed to run a bit big; I usually wear an 8.5 in closed-toe shoes, and sometimes a 9 in boots because you have to wear socks with them, but I wear an 8 in these. I might be able to squeeze some thick socks underneath, but basically I'm planning on just wearing tights or something. The toes also don't pinch, which I was happy about, because I think my toes are abnormally large or something - I struggle to find closed-toe shoes that don't pinch! But they don't look big in the toe, which is obviously good.

They actually did come out of the box with a little blemish, as if someone kicked it or poked it and rubbed a bit of the colored part off, but it's small enough that I don't really care enough to send them back. But I know they won't last me more than a season. My camera is busted, so I can't take any pics, but they basically look just like they do in the pic.

I have thin calves and always struggle to get boots without some gaps on either side. These are pretty good - there's a bit of a gap, but nothing I can't live with. There is a stretch panel built into the inner side of the boot, but I don't think anyone with thick calves will be able to get these on.

I guess ask any more questions if I skipped something
