Bare Minerals - Kabuki Brush other recs?
Permalink Closed

So my Bare Minerals Kabuki brush, which has always had the problem of shedding, is now losing hair in clumps.  It's been about 2 1/2 yrs so I wonder if it's just regular wear and tear that it needs to be replaced?  I've never had to replace any other make up brush becuase the hair was falling out.

Does anyone else have this issue? I am debating whether or not to buy the bare minerals brush (same one) or find another brand.  I have tried a cheaper version but it didn't work with the powder nearly as well. Any recommendations?

I HATED the BE kabuki brush. I got it in the starter kit and it shed like crazy after two weeks.

I would spring for the Valerie Beverly Hills medium squirrel kabuki brush. I spent $56 on it in 2003 (it's now $45) and it may have shed a total of 4 hairs the whole time I've owned it. Plus it's 100x softer than the BE kabuki one.

Medium Kabuki

Their store is on Little Santa Monica and Canon if you want to get it in person. Otherwise, they now have a website.

(admittedly...I always feel guilty about killing the squirrels) ashamed

I haven't tried this one because I'm still using my BM kabuki but I'm going to try this one next, it's on everydayminerals.com and it's $12.

I've heard it still sheds though, maybe not quite as bad as the BM one though.

Shedding is totally normal for the Bare Escentuals brushes. Although, it should not be coming out in clumps. A lot of times (no matter how high the quality of the brush) natural hair brushes shed for as long as you keep the brush. I would say that after 2 and a half years, it's time for a new brush! I like to replace my brushes about once a year...depending on how often I've used them. Also keep in mind how ofen and how you wash them. A lot of times the kind of soap that you're using is deteriorating the brush. I also find that with the BE brushes, they can get the minerals "caked on" them and they get kind of hard, so to make them soft again, just wash them. Although I don't recommend washing them more than twice a week. I would buy another Kabuki brush...any brush that lasts over 2 years is a winner in my book!

I have heard that there were some batches of bad BE kabuki brushes that just shed like crazy for some reason.. I have also heard that after you wash them, they should stop shedding.

I had heard about the shedding and specifically used a different kabuki brush with BE then a year later bought a kit that came with the BE brush and I have to say, it grabs the product a lot better, I use less of it as well. I would just go with the same brush.
