Nicole Richie Sent to Jail for 4 Days

GLENDALE, Calif. - Nicole Richie pleaded guilty Friday to driving under the influence of drugs and was sentenced to 90 hours in jail and fined $2,048 by a judge who said she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a freeway.

Richie, 25, the daughter of Lionel Richie, was subdued and somber as she was lectured about her driving. She entered court on the arm of boyfriend Joel Madden.

She stood before the judge and softly answered "guilty" when asked how she pleaded to the charge.

She nodded when asked if she understood terms of the plea agreement worked out between her lawyers and the prosecution.

Superior Court Commissioner Steven K. Lubell also gave Richie three years' probation and warned that she would go to jail for a year if she violates it.

She was ordered to enroll in a second-offender drug and alcohol program and must prove that she completed it by Feb. 20, 2008.

"You are not to drive with any measurable amount of alcohol or drugs in your system," Lubell told her. "You are not to drive without a driver's license."

The judge said the state Department of Motor Vehicles will decide whether to suspend her license.

I thought driving on the wrong way on the freeway alone, would have carried major reprocussions. I'm really dissapointed, she could have caused a tragic accident.

driving on the wrong side of the 134 gives you 4 days in jail AND they still haven't decided whether or not to suspend her license? geez, i'd have thought it to be more.

that said, 4 days is better than nothing...

I now this sounds mean, but I wish she would have gotton life haha. She is just so annoying and such a bad influence on all the young girls that probably adore her ( along with Paris, and Lohan). I could see if these people were actually DOING something with their lives, but gor into some trouble, they don't do S&*%!! Very sad I think ..sorry had to vent furious

Driving the wrong way on the highway is bad but if there's no accident, it's just a traffic violation DUI, which is less severe than say a speeding DUI or an accident DUI. It's not good - it could have been bad but since it wasn't, it's low on the list of DUI offenses. A 2nd DUI is still a misdemeanor, so I'm surprised by the outcome, but she better be really careful if that judge said she'll do a year for a probation violation. Probation is seriously hard for a normal person to maintain, much less (I'd imagine) someone like Nicole Richie.

As for the suspended license, I think I read somewhere that her license wasn't suspended because her DUI didn't involve alochol. Weird law out there in CA but lucky her I guess.

And oh yeah - missing a period when you're skeletal does not equal pregnancy. Get a grip and pee on a stick, girlfriend, you might learn something. (I'm irate anyone in their right mind would believe she's pregnant. Give me a f***ing break.)
