Has anyone joined meetup.com and done any meetups?  I really want to find people to go kayaking with in the nyc area and I'm not sure where to look.  I feel like none of my friends want to "do things".

I've done a couple of meetup groups (mostly political) and met great people and become involved in long-lasting groups.  However, associated with sports, I always find that a sports club for singles is a better pick (this is how I found my running club).  A quick web search should find one in your area.
