I took this MJ skirt to my trusty expensive tailor to see about taking it in 2 sizes. He does the intricate work like taking items in a few sizes, hemming delicate materials, etc. etc.

He loves the skirt as much as I do, but he would have to take it in about 2 1/2 inches. The skirt is not a simple A-line. The silk is pleated on the sides, but not in the front or the back. He can't take it in on one side, but would have to take in the waistband at the back, and fix the pleating of the silk skirt so that it looks even. He's quoting $65-70 to fix it and make the skirt my size.

I'm not returning it to Bloomie's because I paid $0.01 for it. So, what should I do?

1. Pay the $65-70 to make the otherwise too-large-in-waist-and-hips skirt perfect for me.

2. Go to the cheaper tailor who will just take in the sides. Skirt could look off-balance, but probably a $20ish alteration.

3. Find someone who would give the skirt a lovely home who happens to be two sizes larger than me. I believe this would be considered a feat in Los Angeles as apparently I get the evil eye from SAs who think I'm the size of a cow. (The skirt is a size 10. I am a size 6)

4. Ebay. But ebay is such a PITA...

Would you have bought it in the correct size for $70?  If not, I'd ebay it or give it away.

Ebay. I'm not a fan of the print and I don't think it's worth that much to have it altered.

I voted to tailor it without re-doing the pleats. Maybe I cant see the pic but why can't he just take off the inches on either side and not replace the pleating?

This is my thought too.  If you love it and would pay $70 for it in your size then I would go ahead and have it tailored.  If you don't love it that much then I would ebay it.  You might as well make some money on it since you braved the sales and found a great deal!

I agree with Jettie and HeatherLynn - if you would have paid $60 for it, get it altered. If not, no. But I do think you should ebay it if you decide not to keep it. It shouldn't be too much of a hassle, you already have pictures, etc.

I would just ebay it,I don't think it's worth the money or the fuss of tailoring.

I'd go and atleast  talk to the cheaper tailor first before deciding... I think there is a good chance you might find someone who can do a good job for less money.
