Muscle Pain... Help Me!
Permalink Closed

Hey gals, what is your no-fail fix for muscle pain.  I ran the Camp Pendleton Mud Run 10K today and my ankles are already killing me, so I can't imagine what it will be like tomorrow and I am flying for work, so I'll be walking through big airports...

The pain is not really in the normal running places.  I run a lot, so those muscles are fine, the problem is that the course had a bunch of obstacles and particularly really steep slopes going downhill/uphill.  The muscles around my ankles or the connections are what are dying.cry

Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated.  If it is something that can be bought at the drugstore, Ralphs, that's better as it is close to my home.

I saw at walmart today a muscle relaxing creme. I almost bought it because I have had some intense sholder and neck aches for the last week.

Other than that, a warm bath with epson salts will grealty relax muscles and reduce swelling.

HTH!

A heating pad always makes everything feel better. Around the ankles seem like a tough spot for a heating pad so maybe a warm massaging foot bath would help.

Great recs so far.  While you are either soaking, or warming on the heating pad, perhaps you could listen to a mediation cd/tape/podcast.  Relaxing your mind will help you relax your body.  Taking an anti-inflamatory might help you heel faster (or at least more comfortably).

RICE! Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

And I'm a fan of Arnica Montana cream (I buy mine at Whole Foods).

Thanks, gals.  The pain is excruciating today and 5.5 hours in a plane did not help matters (imagine a duck waddling through the airport and you have the visual of what I looked like).  However, I brought my esalts and a heating pad with me and as soon as I hit the hotel tried out your recs... already feeling a little better and hope to be able to walk normal (or at least fake it) tomorrow!
