My 17 year old cat, Tiger, has a cancerous tumor. It's pressing on her throat, making it very painful for her to eat or drink, which she has stopped doing days ago. Anyway, even with the painkillers the vet gave her, and attempts to feed her with a syringe, it's clear to everyone that she is suffering and that it's time.

I just want to say a little bit about her. I got Tiger when I was 8 years old (I'm 24 now). She has always been both an indoor and outdoor cat (lived in the middle of nowhere in VT - we had a lot of land and she loved being outside). She was always at my side and was more like a dog than a cat. She used to know exactly what time the school bus would drop me off -- she'd be waiting at this little spot at the corner of the house and the driveway, and when the bus would arrive, she'd walk down to the end of the driveway to meet me, then walk me back to the house.

Or when I'd go sledding, she'd walk me to the sledding hill, then wait until I was done, and walk me home. The snow didn't bother her, she just seemed to want to be wherever I was. She used to go nuts at Christmas time with the tree skirt - she'd grab it with her front paws and kick at it with her feet - it was so funny. There was never a point in arranging the tree skirt nicely b/c she'd just come and tackle it anyway.

Anyway, I couldn't have asked for a more awesome companion to me growing up. She has been by my side for most of my life and the sadness I feel is so intense, it seems like it will never go away. I have been crying nonstop, knowing that I only have a couple more hours to spend with her and that when I leave the house with her this time, she will never come back. Please send good thoughts her way for a peaceful passing.

Oh Christine, I'm sorry to hear about Tiger.  I lost my childhood dog when I was 21 & got him when I was 6.  I know how hard it is to lose a pet & my heart goes out to you.

Sweetie, I am so, so sorry.  I know how hard this is.  As you know i had my childhood dog from age 5 to 23.  It's the hardest loss I ever experienced.  Tiger is a beautiful cat and I promise you, it will get better with time.  (((HUGS))))

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty, Tiger. I thought I'd never get over the death of my dog a couple of years ago but time has made the pain a little easier to deal with. I still think of him a lot but now I mostly think of all the wonderful memories that we had together. You'll be in my thoughts. ((((HUGS))))

I'm so sorry about your cat! Losing a pet is so hard. I lost my dog of 15 years when I was 22 and I still think about her sometimes.

Sounds like Tiger lived a fabulous long life. Still, it's sad for pets to go especially when they were part of your childhood. So sorry to hear.cry
