What to do with edamame?
Permalink Closed

I bought some frozen, shelled edamame at the grocery store. Unfortunately, I tried some this morning that I had thawed, and I didn't like it.

Are there any recipes that will make edamame taste good? I don't really want to throw out the bag. Are there any dishes I can sneak it into where I won't notice it? TIA!

can you try to wok sear it? throw in some garlic, ginger and soy sauce and eat it that way?

I make a pretty decent edamame dish, if I do say so myself!  Take the shelled edamame, boil it in water for like 3-4 minutes, then put it in a big bowl with ice water to stop it from cooking further.  (If your edamame is already cooked, you can skip this step and just thaw it.)  Then chop up some red bell pepper and some onion and toss that with the edamame, once you've drained it.  Then toss it all together with a little bit of soy sauce, sesame oil, sesame seeds, and maybe some crushed red pepper flakes for some heat.  Chill it all in the fridge and serve cold.  It's basically like a cold green bean salad and it's pretty tasty!

I also like it mixed in with brown rice, once the rice is done cooking just with some salt and pepper.

ETA:  Monica's post reminded me that you can add garlic and ginger to the cold edamame salad as well.  It's basically one of those things that you could throw a bunch of things in and it'd still be good.

I've used them in place of frozen peas in some recipes too.

I don't know where I read this, but try thawing them in a bowl of warm water.
