Dry shampoo or colored hair powder
Permalink Closed

Inspired by some other recent posts.

I, like others, am trying to only wash my hair every other day. My bff (who is also a stylist) suggested baby powder to soak up some oil on my off-days. I dont think I am careful enough to blend it into my chocolate brown hair. She also said there are some good dry shampoos and/or colored oil absorbing powder that would work for me. Has anyone tried these and can you recommend one?

I have this old school stuff from the drugstore called Pssssssssssst! Its like $6 and its dry shampoo. I use it in between shampoos, I never wash my hair every day or every other day. I find that it damages the hair too much, plus drying and restyleing damages it even more.

I also use this stuff when I need extra volume or a long lasting style. It is similar to other hair powders but much much cheaper. I have tried baby powder but its very difficult to apply without leaving traces behind.

I use baby powder all the time, including when I had really dark hair (varied from chocolate brown to deep red). I actually thought the baby powder was easier to use when I had dark hair (and worked better). You have to be careful but once you get the hang of it, it's not tricky at all.

But I've been doing this for years, so I'm not sure everyone is so lucky with the white baby powder. A fried of mine uses the black bumble and bumble hair powder and loves it. It's pricey for such a small container though.

I've also heard good things about the Psst stuff.

Aveda makes an oil absorbing powder that works pretty well. Its like baby powder but not as messy/whitening on your hair.

Based on suggestions from The ST girls, I bought BUMBLE & BUMBLE colored Hair powder about 6 months ago.

It is amazing stuff. I use it between washing, and it matches my dark hair color. Its also great when my roots start growing out and I want to cover them up in between colorings.
