my husband has the opportunity to go there for work for a month or so, and me and la bebe would be able to come, too (if i can get over my fear of flying).

is the public transportation good there? if we fly, i wouldn't have a car, and i don't want to be stuck in the hotel all day. (if it were just me, i'd chill with the bon bons and watch oprah, but i don't think lilah would enjoy that)

not certain he is going to go for sure...but wanted to get some ideas while we talk it over.

thanks!

I don't know Miami all that well, but unfortunately my impression is that it is fairly difficult to get around via public transport although some people use it frequently.

Public transportation in Miami is pretty crappy. Unless you're talking cabs and then you're fine you can get a cab anywhere but depending on where you are staying you can walk to so many places that you'd be ok.
There is no train except for one little dinky one that noone uses because it doesn't bring you any place you want to be and buses are allright to get you to Lincoln Road but that's about it.

Do you know where you will be staying?  If you'll be in South Beach, it's pretty easy to walk around and get to places.

If you're staying at a resort, you may not want to leave.  I tagged along on a trip my husband had to take to The Biltmore, and it had everything I needed.  The grounds are gorgeous, and it's in a really nice neighborhood, so I would go for a walk and look at the houses each morning.  There is an outdoor mall nearby, and I took a $4 cab ride and spent one afternoon shopping.

thanks, ladies. i had suspected the public transportation would be bad hmm my husband would have a rental car there, but should he take up this offer, he will be working quite a bit, and we wouldn't really have access to the car. i'd have to look into rates of renting a car for us separately, but i think it might be too expensive to consider.

i am not sure where we would stay. he is finding out more information this week before we make a decision on whether or not he is going to go. i was kind of jazzed because the weather here sucks lately, and i've never been to florida!

jj - i can say with confidence we would not be staying at a resort! his job isn't that glamourous!
