Do any of you collect things?

Do you all collect certain items?  Like my mom collects Hadley Pottery and like Charles Harper paintings, and also cute/unique cat pillows on the side, :), but what do you all collect? 

My mom says I should look for certain items to collect, for a fun hobby, maybe, or just for the fun of it...

I'm trying to think of items to collect, like cute vintage/antique handkercheifs? Or even cool pottery/plates....

What about you all?  aww

It's not much, but I collect glass figurines, the ones you cany buy 3/$9.99 @ Walgreens; I've gotten some from Midnight Velvet, just various places.

Maybe it's just me, but I think that if you sit down and decide "I'm going to collect such-and-such," it'll end up being something you collect just for the hell of it and it might end up being a big time/money waster. If you like something, and like a lot of it, have at it! but whenever I decide "I'm going to collect _______", I always end up giving it up with nothing to show for it except some junk I don't want anymore. I buy what I like and want, and so far that's just naturally happened to be books. I don't have room for anything else right now! But when I move into my new house this summer, I think I'll very quickly start collecting decor with vine designs on them - just because that's what I'll want all around me!

I collect pretty rocks. I love those places where they have huge wooden boxes where you can search for the ones you like. It's so much fun and only cost about $3 for a small bag. I like to display my colorful rocks around candles. I'm not the type to study about them though.

Only things I can use. Jewelry (modern and vintage) and shoes, mostly.

I used to collect things when I was little - still have the whole horse collection packed away somewhere - but I have a rather minimalistic style in my home (plus I hate dusting tchotchkes) and I have a 'quality over quantity' mentality. So I'd rather have one nice, statement-y piece of pottery, for example, than a bunch of little pieces.

I do. 
Vintage full-slips that I use as pj's and turtle pins.  I wouldn't normally buy a pin unless I absolutely love it - most of them have been bought for me and I wear them almost every day.  I wear what I like and "part" with the rest.  As for the slips I buy them myself with the exception of my best girlfriend.  We always buy each other our secret want's as gifts smile
Oh- and do shoes count?  If so, then I collect those also.

what don't I collect...

clothes (vintage and contemporary)
jewelry (vintage and contemporary costume and fine)
SHOES

mostly 19th c. chinoiserie (some is 18th c. some is 20th c.)
19th c. staffordshire pottery
art pottery
toby jugs and drinking themed antiques - mostly ceramics

those are the big collections - I have tons of little collections like strange little European stick pins which i have stuck on my kitchen window curtain along with an 18th c. diamond butterfly brooch, fossils and stones on the kitchen window sill, Maxfield Parish Knave of Hearts prints, wine, clobbered transferware plates, antique and vintage ceramics, vintage cookware, china, and kitchen tools, vintage serving pieces, any unusual antique/vintage thing - I like stuff that's whimsical and interesting.

Like ttara123 said...IMOI dont think you can start collecting something you will truly value if you sit down and just pick something to collect.

I want collect french provincial(sp?) or 'curvy' furniture. I love the curved edges and scroll legs on furniture. Since we're renting and have moved 5 times! in less than 4 yrs, I cant buy anything until we buy a house. I've been able to hold on to my french provincial desk/vanity and a mirror. But I have a hard enough time holding out when I see something I love, I cant wait! 

I also have a vintage tea cup and saucer set, I like shabby chic inspired stuff and want to collect more kitchen items like doilies, fabric napkins, and tin cans.

I just recently started collecting perfume bottles, they're not antique or vintage by any means at all! They're actully bottles of dept store perfume that I kept after I ran out last year, but I really loved the design/colors of the bottles so much I couldnt throw them out.

I don't think of it as "collecting" especially on things like shoes and bags if I use them.

I do have small collections of:
- vintage teacups/saucers
- vintage table linens (very small as I don't really use them and I have to really like them)
- scarves (vintage and new)
- vintage coats (i DO use these a lot)

Hee-hee, not silly at all.  It is just a silly name for cotton, ribbed tanks.  Some people call them wife beaters too.  My bf calls them Dago tees because he and all of his little Italian buddies used to run around in them in their younger dayswink.

Collecting is in my blood. My parents do it. They even had an on the side antiquing business for awhile. I have small collections like my bad dog art collection, which is a few amateur paintings or paint by numbers of dogs I've found at garage sales and antique stores. I want to get a few more to group together in my office, but not too many. It is a little zany and I don't want to be the kooky dog lover with velvet paintings of dogs and dog figurines all over my house.

Anyway, I would only collect something if you love it or it means a lot to you. My mom collects china that a beloved aunt owned when she was little. She keeps it all in a buffet/display unit and her kitchen color palatte was pulled from the pattern. It is very attractive.

I collect:

Tuscan pottery, mostly from Siena and Florence

European antiques/reproductions that I bought while we lived in Italy( mostly Belgian, Italian and Austrian)

Wine

Italian chicken pitchers, all sizes

Fiestaware (my biggest collection, inherited from my grandmother)

I collected pig stuff when I was younger, but I'm so sick of it, so I don't display anything.
