I should be at work, but I'm been waiting for the cable guy for the past hour and half...and I'm sitting in the kitchen w/the front door open. MIL had told me the lady next door did some babysitting and how she screamed at the kids all the time and let babies cry etc. I didnt think anything of it, cuz MIL tends to exaggerate or add to her stories a lot. But for the past hour a baby has been crying almost non stop. I feel horrible, since DD also has a babysitter 2xs a week, I would hate to think that they would ever let her cry so long. It breaks my heart just to think about it! I dont know what to do. MIL's house is in a lower income area and I know the lady is very affordable for low income families. I dont know if the parents have anywhere else to take their babies. I also am afraid of what she would do if I called her on it?
wow...i dont know. Could you call the landlord or whoever would be in charge to speak with her so you dont have to do it yourself? Not only is it a noise problem...but if the babysitter really isnt providing proper care for the baby(s)/children she shouldnt be allowed to watch them. Regardless if thats the only affordable option.

I totally agree. Let the landlord know that's it been going on for a while now, like your MIL said.
Perhaps a call in to the county Job and Family Services? If the woman has been qualified to provide childcare and receives government subsidized childcare fees than she should be observed.
hmm. lilah will sometimes cry for over an hour even with me consoling/rocking her...just because she's pissed and doesn't want to nap. (and she's got some lungs)
but if she's also screaming at the other kids, maybe the situation is different..
maybe the next time you hear the baby crying for a while, stop by the house and ask if everything is ok? That way you'll show that you're aware of the noise and you're concerned enough to ask about it. It is a tough situation, I know, because sometimes babies are inconsolable.

She doesnt live on the same duplex property as I do, she lives in the house next to ours, they're about 10 feet apart, so I wouldnt be able to tell our landlord.
Erin... I thought the same thing, maybe she's a fussy baby or maybe she was colicky? And since I didnt hear the woman yelling or anything, I was thinking about what MIL had said, I wasnt sure, but I was definitely worried.
Starstuff, I was thinking that was my best option, just walk over and ask her if everything was ok, maybe she had fallen & couldnt get up to get the baby or tell her something like that.
The cable guys showed up shortly after I posted and I lost track, but if it happens again, I'll ask her if everything is fine, just to be sure.
