Is there a way to get your credit score without having to pay for it? I just went to annualcreditreport.com to get my credit report, but it was saying I had to pay to get my credit score.
You should be able to get it free from all 3 credit bureaus from annualcreditreport.com if you have not accessed it in the past 12 months. If you're still not able to get it you can go directly to each of the Credit Bureau's websites and sign up for their free 30 trial. Just remember to cancel before the 30 days to avoid being charged. You can also get a free report by requesting one by mail.
The only time I've gotten my score for free was when I applied for my car loan and I got told it then. Other than that, there's nowhere you can just get it for free. Annualcreditreport.com has the option of buying it for $8 when you pick up your free credit reports, but yeah, paying for it is the only way that I'm aware of getting it.

yeah -- don't pay for it. I think it's the law that you be able to get it once a year for free.

Hold up a minute; Where on earth on the annualcreditreport.com site are you guys seeing a free score? You can get your credit REPORT free from each of the agencies once a year, but not the score, at least not that I've seen. After getting my free reports I've only seen the option to get my score (the actual number) for a small fee....
Not all credit scores are the same. Make sure you are looking at your FICO score as the likelihood that it will be used in making a credit granting decision is very high. For one of the best information sources on credit scores on the web visit www.fico.org.
Note the quick links to common questions on the right hand side - q3 - which scores are the real FICO credit scores?
Whoops! My post above I was referring to accessing your report, not the score. I completely misunderstood. You cant get your score free you have to pay for it and like jah said, the only realiable and truly accurate place to get it from yourself is from FICO.org.
