I just changed insurance companies. I only got quotes from 2 different companies: Geico and Progressive. Progressive's rates were half those of Geico. And I lease a car so I have to have the fullest of the full coverage. They seem good so far, but I haven't had any accidents or tickets yet.
My husband works in insurance claims and he says Allstate fights the hardest for their customers, so that's what we have. (It's not the company he works for, LOL.)

We used to have Progressive, and they took very good care of me in a very sticky situation. No complaints with them. We now have Allstate, and no complaints there either. The coverage is better, which is why we switched. Previously we had the state mins with Progressive, which - we found out the hard way - might not be anywhere near enough to cover us in the sticky situation. Fortunately it worked out okay, but we now pay about the same with Allstate to have more coverage.

I have Progressive after a horrible experience with Allstate. First, my good experience with Progressive. My car was broken into and suffered a great deal of damage and Progressive was at my house within an hour of calling their team and I had a check for my service quote before the work was done on the car - highly recommend. Plus, they were 1/2 the price of Allstate for my car/coverage.
I left Allstate because I was scammed and they did nothing to fight the claim or protect me. Basically, a women wrecked her car and blamed me for a "hit and run". She called the police and her friend gave my license tag number as someone that swerved into her lane creating her accident. The police filed a report, ran my tag and put my info in the accident report. Please note, I knew nothing about this. I only found out about this when I got a letter for damages from her insurance company - State Farm.
So, I have no recollection of running a woman off the road, I wasn't even on the road that she says I was on the day she was ran off the road, I didn't hit her car (she admitted this) and her friend in a car 100+ yards directly behind me (this is their story) in the dead of winter/darkness indicates I merged into her friend's lane and to avoid me the friend lost control and hit a pole. Please note that the claim payed off a car almost 10 years old for 20K+. Anyway, I ran it up the entire chain with Allstate indicating I was not paying the claim, asked them to take it to arbitration, etc. (I know I didn't run this woman off the road) and Allstate refused to do it because she had a "witness". These women were totally sketch and I think they picked my License by random - they even had my car description wrong in the report.
So after this experience, I will NEVER EVER use Allstate again.
I have recently learned about Travelers. They are the 2nd oldest insurance company in the US. They are very similar to a broker so they will use several companies to find you a cheap rate. Everyone at work has been switching to them because they have been so much cheaper. I recommend at least giving them a call. You just go to travelers.com and find a person in your are and give them a call!
