Possibly a dumb question but I've never done this before. For those who have applied online for mortgage pre-approval - what kind of information do you need to provide? I'd be pulling money together from a few different places (stocks, bonds, etc.) for a down payment - will I need to submit account and serial numbers for all my assets? I just want to get everything gathered together before I sit down to do the application.
it might be different in the ny market, but basically i just provided my ss # and they were able to get everything else from there. i think they also asked mine & my husband's income, but since i basically feel mortgage brokers will approve almost anyone, i wouldn't be too worried.
I just went through this last week! We needed- current paystub, current bank statements (showing balances), and last years W2. You don't need account numbers for any of them- just know what the balances are.
Fot the online part you'll just have to give them numbers...then they'll come back with a ballpark number and if you liek it you can fax over copies of the other stuff (bank statements, etc.)to get an actual preapproval. Good Luck!!
also for what its worht, we had the best luck going into a brokerage and talking to someone face to face. That way I was able to explain to him some stuff that didn't look great on paper, and he was able to kind of override the system since it makes us look like we're a lot worse off than we really are. (it was a really late payment for a long time ago, but its still killing my credit score and making me look like a huge risk when really I'm not). He was also able to take into account things like inflated rent prices that the automated system didn't make excpetions for.
