I have a kelly green cap sleeved button up shirt from BR that I bought about 6 months ago that would look fantastic with three different pairs of pants that I have.  For some reason, though, I feel like I should wear it with only one pair of pants and buy two more tops to go with the other two pairs of pants.  Is that silly?  It won't hurt my feelings if you say yes. I am tough  It would really save me alot of money if I just wore that green top with my three different pairs of pants which all look very different, or bought just one top for one of the other two pairs of pants.  What do you do outfit-wise?  Do you wear the same pieces in different outfits or to you have one outfit for each piece of clothing? I don't know if this would be more appropriately placed in the style polls section or here.

You're not silly to think that way, but you're silly to do it. It seems to me that if you only have one outfit for each piece of clothing, you're limiting your options quite a bit. Some of my best outfits come from when I break out of my "uniform" and try the pieces with other things.

I like to mix it up. I do buy things all the time that look good with things I already own, yet I feel the impulse to buy something new to go with it, too. Does that make sense?

I own a few pieces that I think only look good together with a certain other piece but that's admittedly not very practical. An ideal for me is that you can mix pretty much anything and everything. I think that's what a functional wardrobe is all about.
