Mikacat - you live in Chicago, right? This was a few years ago, but when I moved here, I had a leased car from another state. When I went to get license plates, I was told I would have to pay back taxes on the car to the State of Illinois. Seemed kind of shady, plus it was almost $2,000 to get the plates, pay the taxes and pay a penalty for not doing it within 30 days. So I called a dealership and asked them if it seemed right to them. They told me yes, getting plates and paying taxes for leased vehicles is really costly here. I've noticed since then, whenever they announce raising taxes on things like cigarettes, etc., it usually also includes leased vehicles.

Good to know -- thanks!
Maybe I will do a little more research on leases or skip it all together. Hubby needs a new car but things are kind of tight right now.
