I hadn't planned on being out of town for this long but I've been gone a week and will not get home until NEXT Monday night (26th). I live in an apartment with no door man and one of those tiny mailboxes...once the postman has shoved all the mail he can fit into that box what will he do with my mail? Will they just hold it at the post office for me to pick up? Will they return to sender? Should I put in a request for them to hold the rest of my mail or is it worth it?
You can go to usps.com and have it stopped from now till when you return (I think then you have to pick it up for it to resume). At least then they wouldn't be adding more mail to the box
I'd have it stopped, too. I don't know what my mailman does, since he's always managed to cram things in there even when I've been gone for a long time. But, judging by how he handles other things, I wouldn't be surprised if he just threw it on the floor, too.
I'm sure that they're supposed to hold it at the post office, but that doesn't always happen.

I just put a hold on my mail, I didn't realize it was that easy (did it through the website). Hopefully that will take care of it. I always try to be nice and move packages inside the entryway (so it's locked within the apartment building)...so maybe someone will return the favor for me if stuff was left by the mailbox.
