Having credit card charges removed?
Permalink Closed

So, I placed a couple orders with a cheapie magazine place online (not the one I usually use).  I placed 5 orders, only one of which I got a confirmation for.  The others I've been charged for, but haven't gotten confirmations and also haven't received a reply to either of the 2 emails I've sent to their CS (my original was sent 2/6).  I want to dispute these charges to my CC, so the CC company can deal with these bozos.

Also, on this same CC, I'm a dummy and forgot to make my payment.  It was due 2/9 and I totally spaced it until I paid it today 2/16.  They charged me a $25 late fee, which I'd also like them to remove - I've had this card for 4 years with no other late payments ever.  The card is through our credit union, so we don't get any kind of statement or anything on it ever.  We just have to check the account online and make a transfer to it at the appropriate time to pay it.

So, is disputing a couple small charges going to be a huge pain?  And also, do you think they'll actually remove the late charge if I ask, considering I've never been late before?

They may or may not remove the late fee.  I would just call and ask.  Explain that you're a longtime cardholder and have never been late before.  I did this one time and they removed it.  But SO tried once and they refused.  It's a gamble.  If they say no, you might want to say that you're going to look around for a different credit card then - that may get them.  Good luck!

It is definitely worth asking about the late fee.  I did the same thing once, the payment just slipped my mind, and my bank removed my fee.

Regarding disputing the charges, it might be a little bit of a hassle.  I've only had to do it once, and my CC company sent me a form to fill out and I had to attach info on how I personally had tried to resolve the issue and recieved no response.  Frankly, even if it is a bit of hassle, it's worth it.  Call your CC company and talk through it with them.

I just called, and they removed the late fee no problem!  I sooooo that bank!  They also helped me dispute the magazine charges.  Way easier than I thought, silly me.
