I use AVG Free, which is as the name says, free. I really like it, I haven't had any viruses since I started using it over a year ago. The program automatically updates itself daily, which is a nice feature. It also links up with your email program and scans your email as it downloads. (This doesn't apply to webmail programs). You can download it here: http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1
I also have a firewall on my router, so I don't know if that is part of the reason I've been virus free or not, but regardless I really like AVG Free. The company also makes a version you can pay for, but I haven't bought it because the free version works really well.
I use AVG Free and it, just like Bastet! The only downside I've found with it is that the free version needs to be reinstalled every year I think. But it only takes a few minutes, and, it's FREE!
I've not had a single problem with my computer since I started using these .
I use these types of programs because not only do they work really well because they're smaller companies that can keep up with the ever-changing ways of new viruses/hackers/etc much better than larger mass marketed programs do. Also, being smaller, they aren't a target for a program-specific virus. I had Norton before too, and got hit with a Norton-disabling virus, so the program appeared to be functioning normally, but was in reality totally disabled and letting all kinds of things through. Bastards .
