I lvoe my stylist. He's done a better job on my hair than anyone else. I tip him one-third of the bill every time, and if I buy product, I tip on that too. We get along well. I like him. BUT, the last two times I've gone to him, the cut hasn't ben as good. It's heavier on the bottom, giving me kind of atriangle head. The layers are showing signs of fraying, like he's not cutting all the split ends off every time. It just doesnt' look the way i used to.
What's going on? Is he just bored? What's a good way to bring this up with him. I dont' want to soudn too picky, but I think I have to be one of his best customers (we live in a small town and they dont' tip worth a darn). And I really, really really want my hair to look the way it used to when he did it.
Any stylists want to weigh in? Is it possible I'm doing something that bugs him? Or is he just gettting rushed or bored or something?
My current stylist and I went through this awhile back. I was a chicken and never said anything to her, although I did give her subtle hints like "it's just not looking as good as it has in the past" and "the split ends are never ending, even after a hair cut," etc., etc., etc.
As it turns out, the salon she was working at was starting to push her on rushing clients through. She used to schedule me for 1.5 hours but they were smooshing everyone into a 45 minute time slot. She left that salon a few months ago and we talked about it the last time I went to see her at her new place. I don't feel nearly as rushed now and although I still have split ends (long, color-treated hair is never going to be perfect), I'm back to thoroughly enjoying my experience with her again.
I guess I'd just try talking to your stylist next time you go in. Tell him that your hair has been looking off lately (mention the split ends/layers, heavier on the bottom, etc.) and see what happens. If he still isn't listening to you then it's probably him and not his situation. If he does a better job, maybe he just needed a kick in the pants. Or maybe he'll confess his salon has been on him or something. Who knows? But I'd let him know your issues and if he doesn't fix them the next time, I'd start looking for someone new.
I would just tell your stylist you haven't been as happy with the cuts as you were in the past. I'm sure they'd much rather you say something then keep quiet and continue to be unhappy. I'm sure they won't take offense to it or think you're being too picky - especially if you've always been a great customer in the past.
I have a good relationship with my stylist, so I tried to imagine what I would do if this started happening to me. I think I'd discuss it with my stylist, being sure to focus on exactly what I didn't like and what I wanted (you seem to have a good idea). I don't see much need to say something like "it used to be good, now it's bad." That's just me though.
