Fun Classes
Permalink Closed

I am interested in taking some fun classes just for me, nothing that is for professional reasons. Something like a learning annex that would offer classes in something like web design or graphic design? I also would be interested in sewing, and dance. I can find the sewing and the dance seperately, but I thought it would be fun to go somewhere that had maybe monthly classes where I could meet some new people as well. I live in Atlanta, but I would love to know more pf what I should be looking for online? The Learning Annex that is in Atlanta doesn't offer any classes and the only other things I can find are college classes. Any ideas? Thanks!

I think dance classes are a great idea. I've taken ballroom dancing/swing for about 8 years on and off, and it is my favorite thing to do!

I don't live in Atlanta, so I can't say about any studio in specific, but if you're looking at dance classes I think it would be a good idea to see if they have weekly/monthly social dances at the studio. Every studio I've ever gone to has had them, and it really help you learn a whole lot more and have a lot more fun. The classes are fun, but the Friday nights when you just get to hit the floor and try out everything, and learn new things, is the best part.

Of course, this suggestion is assuming you're talking about a dance class where it involves your coordination with other people, not jazz, ballet, or something like that. Although I'm sure those are fun as well!

I wish I could get my husband to take classes with me, but he wouldn't even do it for our wedding! This is strictly for me, I am more interested in jazz, hip hop classes for myself. I really would love one place that offers all sorts of things from computers, dance, cooking, and crafts, it has to exist...

I'd check out local community colleges... they normally have fun stuff like dance, sewing, etc.  I'm hoping to take a photography class and a bookmaking class soon at one of comm. colleges around here

I second the community college classes.  They usually have a lot of fun classes, as well as the more serious classes.  I've taken classes through UC Berkeley Extension, so you might want to look in to your local university as well for the graphic design or web design.  Your local community center or civic center should offer a lot of fun classes as well.

I'll third the community college suggestion. My local community college offers all kinds of adult/continuing education classes--- cooking, dance, art, jewelry design, literature, dance, music, basically anything you can think of. If I had more time, I'd take a ton of those classes.

Thanks everyone! I found some schools that offer a lot of what I am looking for but most of the classes are $200-$300. I was really hoping for something under $100. If anyone else thinks of anything please let me know! Thank you again.

I'm from Atlanta and local colleges are the only place I can think of for non-dance type classes. I know Emory has 'Evening at Emory' and they do things like that. Actually, they also have dance classes.

For dance, I would try something that has open classes. A lot of studios will let you just pay as you go and drop in on whichever classes you want. The Atlanta Ballet offers a lot of classes like this (not just ballet) and they have a studio in the Sandy Springs/North Buckhead area. I think I remember that you were up that way.

I'm in the Dallas area & our parks / recs department offers all types of classes for a low fee - most under $100.  Do you have something like that?  If not in Atlanta proper maybe some of the suburbs will have them?
