Any Party Planners at heart?

Help me please!

Any suggestions? Any budding party/event planners?

My parents offered to throw me a 30th bday party. Great, right? After going back and forth about accepting, I said thank you, what's the budget?

I got married 2 years ago this April 9 so I feel like they just threw me this amazing wedding and ALL of my friends, and husband, are  turning 30 this year too...the parties are starting. So, I don't want to take away from anyone else's party...but then I think, no one would think about my party when planning their own...right?

Anyway, we live in NYC so there's 1000s of options. My Bday is July 14, so it is Saturday. I know, it's only Jan, but the parties have  started and I enjoy the planning (i LOVED planning my wedding and helping my friends) so I want to get some ideas together. Plus, a Sat night in the City in the Summer will book up very quickly.

My thoughts so far: Either fun and happy (like a gourmet chocolate tasting and drinks at a store, or even Dylan's Candy Bar w/a DJ (we live a few blocks away and cld have ppl back to our place...) OR classy/grown-up/cocktail party in a loft space w/a sit down dinner (I do get sick of wearing jeans out all the time and wld LOVE a chance to dress up), maybe at a museum, or a restaurant. I'd do bowling or roller skating, like a retro kids party, but I'm holding that idea for now. We just went to a kareoke party and a wine tasting party w/dinner and favors.

If I could do something outside that'd be great...or an inside place w/a terrace.

Sorry for the looong post, but I really need some help with this and would ask my "live" friends, but they are all thinking about their own parties. I think at this point I can suggest almost anything....

Oh, there will be about 100 people (all my friends are married or engaged so everything is double) and I'm not opposed to changing locations...like start the party one place then move to another.

Also, we might be moving to MD soon and no one knows so it might also be a bon voyage party.

i have a restaurant that would be perfect for you - it's my favorite in nyc - it's called aleo and it's on 20th b/t 5th and 6th (or bdwy and 5th - i always forget) it's across the street from vip. anyway, it's owned by this great guy that used to work for gs and got into the restaurant biz after 9/11. it's really comfy, serves italian food, and they have a garden in the back of the restaurant that could ideal for your dressed-up/sit-down dinner that's just really classy and chill.

btw, the owner's name is peter and i'm in love w/ him - FH and i go in at least once a month to say hi to him and have drinks in the back.

whatever you end up doing, it's sounds like it's going to be great :)

I love the idea of a retro kids party. Complete with the goodie bags for your guests and all the music you use to dance with your girlfriends to. A rollerskating party would be so fun! It sounds a lot more fun than a traditional party, plus since you will be attending a lot of Happy 30th Birthday parties, I think something childish and fun sould stand out among the regular parties.

Monica - I  checked out Aleo and it looks great! If I don't use it for my BDAY party I'll suggest it for my BDAY dinner. I have a group of girl friends from law school and we go to dinner 1-2 times/month...we call it GNO (Girls Nite Out). Looks like a good place for a summer/bridal shower too!

Greendiamond- goodie bags are a MUST!

I'm thinking of having a chocolate tasting  either at a chocolate store (do you guys subscribe to julieb.com ?) or have the store come to wherever the party is. My FAV BDAY parties as a kid were the 2 in a row I had a chocolate factory, really a factory in the back of a store...so this would really be an authentic retro-party.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Please keep them coming!
